OUR CONCERNS

When Martin Luther challenged the institutional church of his day, it made many people very angry. As a matter of fact, if Luther had not had the support of Frederick the Wise and his armies, he would have been killed for his beliefs (as many other Reformers were). Today protestants look back on Luther and hail him as a hero, yet during his life he was seen as a troublemaker, judgmental, divisive and unwise. Luther loved God and the church, but he strongly disagreed with the church system that surrounded him, arguing that it was not biblical. He also had the courage to prophetically declare that disagreement in public. Today nearly 500 years after Luther nailed his thesis on the door of the Wittenberg church, we are witnessing the beginnings of another Reformation; ‘The Reformation of the church’.

We praise God for the thousands of fearless believers following in Luther’s foot-steps, who are boldly proclaiming a Reformer’s message. The shake up has begun and the tide is turning with millions of God fearing believers leaving the institutional church in search of authentic Christianity. Recent statistics have confirmed that every year, one million believers in North America are leaving the institutional church.

As Reggie McNeal shockingly said:
“A growing number of people are leaving the institutional church for a new reason. They are not leaving the church because they have lost their faith. They are leaving to preserve their faith.”

The testimony below is just one of thousands of letters / emails we receive from people all over the world.

After 16 years of denominational membership my family and I walked away, not from God and His beautiful church, but from a destructive system that for years hindered us functioning as priests and kings. I’m now ruined for anything other than House church”
Dwayne B. (CANADA)

Sadly we have become a body/congregation of spectators, who are being disempowered and shamed by an unbiblical system that masquerades as the church. What a far cry from the New Testament picture of church, where all are encouraged to contribute for the edification of all? 1Cor 14:26 “let each share a teaching, a song.....”

Even a brief look at the following list paints a disturbing picture of compromise and error.

The New Testament church:

  • They met together sharing with each other in their homes (Rom 16:5)
  • All were encouraged to participate and contribute (1 Cor 14:26)
  • A strong emphasis was placed on reaching the lost (Math 28:19)
  • Top priority placed on equipping the body (Eph 4:11-13
  • Led by a plurality of leaders including women (2 Timothy 2:2)
  • Lord’s supper celebrated as they ate together in the home (Acts 2:46)
  • Discipleship takes place on the job (1 Tim 1:13)
  • Leaders were recognized by gifting NOT qualifications (I Tim 1:6)
  • Built on the foundations of apostles, prophets and teachers (Eph 2:20)

The Institutional church:

  • The Lord’s Supper has in most cases become just a religious ritual
  • Little or no concept of radical one to one discipleship and mentoring
  • Sunday services led by full-time, paid professional “pastors”
  • On the job discipleship replaced with Bible College education
  • Emphasis now placed on attending Sunday services led by professionals
  • Very little or no participation from spectator congregation
  • Recent statistics confirm that 95% of its income is spent on itself
  • Leadership modeled on worldly pyramid system with CEO at the top
  • Pulpit teaching/preaching modeled after the Greek philosopher Aristotle
  • Borrows from banks to build bigger buildings in order to seat more spectators

Take a moment to ask yourself, ‘what’s gone wrong and why?

  • Denominations - are they God’s plan, or a strategy by the evil one to de-rail the church?
  • Why do we have services rather than meet together as did the early church?
  • What message are we sending the world regarding Christianity?
  • Would Jesus have borrowed from the money lenders to build bigger buildings?

Like hundreds of other ministries across the world we are convinced that only a sovereign move of the Holy Spirit and a paradigm shift in our thinking will get us back on track.

Jesus is coming back for a spotless bride. Let’s be ready.
